Newly selected projects bring hidden Greek histories to public light

Apr 03, 2025
They’ll include creating sign language poetry, restoring a historic farmhouse, recording podcasts with incarcerated students, and much more. They range geographically from Greece’s northeastern border to the Peloponnese to a small island with fewer than 200 residents.

Seven new SNF Public Humanities Initiative projects across Greece are bringing private or unknown histories forward into the public’s eye.

Established in 2019 with exclusive support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), SNFPHI aims to activate latent creative potential in Greece by supporting innovative projects that engage the public in new ways of approaching, discussing, and acting on ideas about the world around us. The Initiative works in partnership with Columbia University’s Institute for Ideas and Imagination, for which SNF has also provided support.
